Keith Kreager, 90, a devoted husband, father, businessman, and humanitarian, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024, in Austin, TX. Born on May 6, 1934, in Zanesville, Ohio, Keith lived a full and vibrant life marked by his passion for service and dedication to family.
A graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Keith began his professional career at PPG Industries in Barberton, Ohio. In the late 1960s, he accepted a position with Columbia Nitrogen Corporation in Augusta, Georgia, where he had various roles in engineering, maintenance, operations, and management, ultimately becoming President and Chief Operating Officer until the company merged with Arcadian Corporation in 1989. He continued with Arcadian until his retirement in 1994 following its merger with Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan. Despite vowing to never live west of the Mississippi, Keith and his beloved wife, Donna, relocated to Austin in 2005 to be closer to family.
A compassionate leader committed to community service, Keith served on numerous healthcare, business, and educational boards, including as Board Chair for Ascension Healthcare. He held leadership roles with the Augusta Chamber of Commerce and Augusta State University Board of Trustees. A passionate advocate for adult literacy, Keith testified before Congress on behalf of various organizations, underscoring his commitment to literacy and education. He also enjoyed delivering meals and engaging with the community as a driver for Meals on Wheels of Austin.
Faith was a cornerstone of Keith's life; he was active in the Lutheran Church in Ohio, Georgia, and Texas, most recently as a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Austin.
Keith is survived by his loving family, including his daughter, Kimberly Hoskins (Josiah) of Austin; son, Christopher Kreager (Julie) of Austin; granddaughter, Sarah Stephens (David) of Austin; and great-grandson, Logan Stephens of Austin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna.
Keith was a cheerful giver of his heart, time and treasures. He had an easy smile and brought a smile to his family, friends and caregivers.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at St Martin's Lutheran Church at 606 West 15th Street in downtown Austin on November 17 at 3 pm. There will be a streaming service available for those unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Austin in Keith's memory, honoring his compassionate spirit.
