Mark Burchard Obituary

Mark Burchard of Austin, Texas, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2022 after a valiant fight with esophageal cancer.

Growing up in San Antonio, Texas he graduated from Churchill High School in 1975. He was an exceptional athlete, who played football and ran the 330 yd. intermediate hurdles in track. He went on to Baylor University on a track scholarship and then completed his education at UTSA where he graduated in 1978 Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in Organic Chemistry. Shortly thereafter, Mark attended Dental School at the UT Dental Branch at Houston, graduating in 1984.

Mark practiced General Dentistry in El Paso, Texas for 5 years, where he met his wife Lisa. In 1994 he completed his residency in Oral Surgery at Detroit Macomb Hospital and Detroit Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Mark was a respected Oral Surgeon in the Austin and Round Rock area for the past 28 years. "Dr. B" will be sorely missed, not only for his compassion in how he treated his patients, but also his warmth and kindness towards his family, friends, colleagues and neighbors.

Mark was a born teacher, and his desire to learn and share knowledge was a big part of who he was. In his free time, Mark loved spending time on his ranch where he was able to hunt and enjoy the Texas Hill Country with his dogs. He loved sharing the ranch and his love of nature. Each year come November, there was no doubt where he could be found.

He is survived by his wife Lisa, his daughter Sarah, mother Norma Jean Burchard, sister Rene Sandifer, brother Curtis Burchard, and mother-in-law Shirley Kirkpatrick, along with many cousins, extended family and nieces and nephews that loved their Uncle Mark. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Joseph D. Burchard and father-in-law Robert S. Kirkpatrick.

I just found out about Dr.B and I am truly saddened. He was a wonderful, warm and kind person. My three children were his patients and I vividly remember how he helped calm my youngest who was having a panick attack. He shared some strategies that he felt my child could benefit from, which my son practices to this day. I felt Dr. B's compassion and kindness and he can never be replaced. He was truly talented, gifted, and caring. He will be missed by many.

I was so saddened to hear this, and really only learned about it since my daughter needs her wisdom teeth done. I loved Dr B as I was a "frequent flyer" there. I loved that he was a straight shooter about what was going on and that he always called personally to check on you after a procedure.

I am so blessed to have called Dr, Burchard my friend. His caring and kind personality did not end at the office. He carried those loving traits into everything he did. I am better off for knowing him and calling him my friend.
