1935 - 2017

MATHENY, Sr., Marvin Douglas 10/5/1935 - 10/23/2017 Marvin Douglas Matheny, Sr., or Dada as he was known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born October 5, 1935 on a small farm in the Rio Grande Valley, and left to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his Heavenly home on October 23, 2017. A long time resident of Austin with his wife Dixie, most Austinites knew him as a member of the congregation at Great Hills Baptist Church, or his time as Manager of Luby's at both North Loop and MoPac. Marvin and his family still appreciate the loyal staff from Luby's who became our second family, and all the customers who visited and shared their families over the years. In 1997, he retired with Dixie to their residence in Kerrville, where they enjoyed decades together with their family and the numerous friends they met at First Baptist Church Kerrville, where he served as Deacon, and later Sunrise Baptist Church of Kerrville. Marvin leaves endless love and memories to his family as he is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Dixie, children Marvin Douglas Jr. (Constance), Debbie (Brad), and Miles (Debra), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville officiated by Dr. Mel Hardin. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grimesfuneralchapels.com
