Dear Duane and Family. After moving to Kerrville in 1991 we were fortunate to soon meet you and Vicky.
That has been followed by 20 years of memorable times and experiences, which we do, and will continue to treasure, especially since moving to Louisville, KY.
We are greatly saddened by her suffering and passing and wish we could lighten your burden, but we continue to be uplifted by our many memories. We miss her.
Love,
Bob and Farra Mai Shipp, Kerrville/Louisville

Vicky was always generous and thoughtful and like a second mother to me. As a genealogy buff, I was fascinated to discover her deep ancestral roots in Virginia and West Virginia. She is a direct descendant of “British Grenadier” Capt. John Clay who arrived in Jamestown, Virginia in 1613 – 8 years before the Mayflower landed! She was the 2nd cousin (6 times removed) to Henry Clay, three times Speaker of the House and Secretary of State in 1825. She is directly descended from the first settlers of Wyoming County, West Virginia: John Cooke, son of wealthy London parents who was supposedly “shanghaied” to Virginia and served a term as an indentured servant, and Capt. Ralph Stewart, a legendary Indian fighter and Revolutionary War hero. Mel Gibson's character in the movie “The Patriot” is believed to be partly based on Capt. Stewart.

Dear Duane - I was so sad to read about Vicky but what wonderful memories of all the good times with the golf group. We did have some good get togethers. And I remember what a worker she was in the hospital auxiliary and how she brightened those long, boring meetings! My prayers are with you and your girls and family. God's peace to you all.

Duane,
You chose a beautiful picture of Vicky for her obituary. It expresses well her confident, fun self.

She was a valuable treasure of the SPMH/PRMC hospital auxiliary. She was very practical in her approach to the presidency and handling the concerns and challenges expressed by members of the auxiliary.

I am so sorry to learn of her death. I know you'll miss her.

Sincerely,
Sheryl Jeffery
