Nancy Boyd Obituary

Certified Public Accountant and Beloved Cousin

January 24, 1936 – June 21, 2022

Nancy passed away under the tender care of Hospice and House of Hope in Wichita Falls, Texas. Nancy, an only child, adored her parents Emmet Eugene Boyd (Uncle Jack), a chicken farmer, and Eula Edna Smith (Aunt Eula) who lived in Austin. Nancy spent most of her life in Austin as a beloved and loyal family member with many aunts, uncles and cousins, too many to name. Her time on the farm collecting eggs every day taught her a tireless work ethic, keen sense of humor and strong faith. Nancy was a long-standing member of St. Matthew's Episcopal church where she was very involved through service in Bible studies, new bell committee, and board for distributing tithes and offerings based on need in the community.

Nancy grew up very bright and attended the University of Texas. While in college, Nancy began working as a receptionist for a certified public accountant. Her employers realized that Nancy had the ability to learn and be proficient in bookkeeping skills. The move into bookkeeping cemented her love for numbers and led her to a life-long career in public accounting. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in June of 1957 with Bachelor of Business Administration and a concentration in accounting, Nancy went on to become the first women Certified Public Accountant in Austin and joined Don Lyda as a partner in his firm, which became Lyda Boyd. Their firm was very successful and they merged with a national accounting firm, Grant Thornton. In 1999, Nancy became a founding partner with Karen Atchley at Lockart & Atchley, which later changed its name to Atchley & Associates, LLP. Nancy practiced federal taxation with a special emphasis in the Estate, Gift and Trust Area until she retired in 2008.

Throughout her career, Nancy was always an advocate for her clients and passionate about helping people. Her attention to detail matched with strong core values, enabled her to provide quality services to her clients and mentor many young CPAs. Nancy's professional associations included the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas, the Austin Chapter of Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Society of Public Accountants, and the University of Texas Ex-Student's Association.

Nancy lived on Cat Mountain in the Northwest Hills of Austin. She loved the view from her back deck of the valley, enjoying the sunsets and was an avid bird, deer and racoon watcher. Her home was always open to friends and family including her regular Friday night friend group. Nancy hosted many family reunions and was a wonderful hostess to all of her friends and family. She lived an extraordinary life which her family and friends will always have special fondness and memories of her life.

There will be a Memorial Service of Nancy Boyd's life at Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church at 10:00 am local time located at 8134 Mesa Drive, Austin 78759.
