Phillip Weihs Obituary

Phillip Donald Weihs Phillip Donald Weihs passed away peacefully September 12, at his home with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born April 2, 1923, in Galveston, to Oscar and Ethylene Highnote Weihs. The family later moved to San Antonio, where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High. His higher education, at St. Mary's University and Texas A & M, was interrupted by World War II. He joined the Army Air Corp, where he was a First Lieutenant serving as a navigator, from 1943-1947. He then completed his education with a BA from St. Mary's University in 1949, and returned to the United States Air Force as a manpower specialist. Simultaneous with his service in the military, he pursued a MBA at SMU, which he received in 1960. During his career, he worked with the reconstruction in Japan, as a professor of air science at Texas A & M, and served his country in Germany, the Philippines, again in Japan, and in Illinois. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1970 to College Station, where he then worked for the Texas State Employment Commission as an employment specialist. He and his wife moved to Austin in 1998 to join their children and grandchildren. He met the love of his life in 1950, Margaret Winifred Schmidt Duke, and married her in 1952. Along with the marriage, he joyously welcomed a daughter, Allenby Kay, whose father had been lost in World War II. Phillip and Margaret had two more children, Diana and Don. Phillip and Margaret's marriage was incredibly happy, close, and strong. They celebrated their 58th anniversary quietly two weeks ago on August 28. Margaret cared for him at home for the last two years, sustaining his spirits through a long, devastating illness. Phillip was predeceased by his sister Bille Jean Hileman, his nephew Bruce Hileman, and his grandson Cameron Tai. He is survived by his grieving wife; children Allenby Kay Roeber, Diana Weihs (and spouse Jim Tai), and Phillip Donald Weihs, Jr.; and grandchildren Paul and Steven Roeber , Virginia and Margaret Weihs, and Walker and Ming Tai. We miss our sweet husband, father, grandfather, whose kindness, corny sense of humor, love for children and cats, strong work ethic, and loyalty to his country has enriched many lives. Services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society.

Dearest Paul and Family,
There's nothing quite as special as Grandparents, and when one passes it's just a different kind of hurt. Please take comfort in knowing there's one more person out here holding you and yours up in Prayer.
You're a friend I'll always remembering crossing my life's path.

Phil was not only my co-worker at TEC, but a good friend.
