Robert Bowers Obituary

Family-Placed Obituary

Robert Bruce Bowers Robert Bruce Bowers was born September 10, 1925, to Robert and Corinne Bowers in Brownsboro, Texas. He passed away after several years of battling cancer. He is now at rest with his parents and brother, Bill, who preceded him in death. Bruce was a very simple person as he enjoyed nature and watching his crops grow. When he retired from farming he was thankful that Cole and Ronald Hohertz farmed for him after his friend, Tobe McGee, passed away. Bruce was raised in Brownsboro and graduated from Lockhart High School. At the age of 17, he went into the U.S. Marines and was in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Later he was sent to the Occupation of Japan. When the war was over he came home and attended Southwestern University but it was not for him. He wanted to get back to agriculture and his love of farming. He continued to farm until his health would not permit it. Bruce married Betty Nichols in 1950 and together they raised three beautiful children of whom they were very proud. Bruce loved to hunt and especially loved hunting with Rex. They had many hunting stories. We will miss you Bruce, but you have suffered enough. He is survived by his wife Betty of 55 years; his children, Kay and her husband Joe Sleeth, Pam and her husband Larry Tokaz, Rex and his wife Kathy; and his grandchildren, Ashley, Megan, Conor, Molly, Amanda, Hunter, and Trevor. Bruce was a member of First Lockhart Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school when he was younger. The last few years he kept attendance records for Sunday school with his buddies, Billy Stromberg and Joe Kelley. There will be no visitation, but the family would be happy to have you join them at Kreuz Market after the service at the cemetery. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the First Lockhart Baptist Church, Lockhart, Rev. Gary Rogers and Rev. Don Duvall, officiating. Interment will follow at the Lockhart City Cemetery. We thank Home Health, Hospice, the caregivers and the doctors who have helped us, especially Dr. Larry Tokaz, Dr. Carsten Kempe, Dr. Mike Shapiro, Dr. Tim Dziuk, and Dr. and Mrs. Charles Laurence. A special thank you to our friends and neighbors who have helped Bruce these but few weeks. Particularly to Kole Townsen, who has helped Bruce get up many times during the night. Without your help he could not have stayed at home. May God bless each of you. If you would like to remember Bruce in a special way, take a drive in the country and enjoy the peace of it or give to your favorite charity. Rev. Gary Rogers and Rev. Don Duvall will conduct the service. McCurdy Funeral Home will be in charge of the service. Thank each of you for your prayers, love, and the many kindnesses you shared with us. Pallbearers: Ronald Hohertz, Cole Hohertz, Karl Van Scyoc, Gary Bowers, Eric Walker, Conor Tokaz, Hunter Bowers, Trevor Bowers, Chris Chrismon, Gus Motal, Doug Barnes, Skip Nichols and Nick Mayfield.
