Ruth Douglass Olbrich Mrs. Ruth Douglass Olbrich of Lakeway passed away on January 8, 2007. She was born on July 7, 1922, in Liberal, Kansas, to parents James and Margaret Darst. Ruth was a member of Lakeway Ecumenical Church since 1978. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of forty five years, James R. Douglass, Col., USAF, retired. She is also preceded in death by her brother, George I. Darst. She is survived by her beloved husband, Alvin P. "Block" Olbrich of Lakeway. She is also survived by her daughter Tracey A. Douglass of Corpus Christi, TX; son James R. Douglass, Jr. and wife Peggy of Fox Chapel, PA; brothers James M. Darst and wife Janet of Orange, CA and Edwin Darst and wife Karen of Glasgow, KY; and sister Jo Anne Norwood of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduating from high school in Chadron, NE, attending Business College and embarking on her own career, Ruth met and married a young Army Air Force Officer just before he transferred to England to fly combat missions over Germany in 1943. Subsequently, they enjoyed a thirty three year career with the Air Force in which they were assigned to bases in Europe, the USA, and the Far East. After retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Lakeway in 1978. After Colonel Douglass passed away in 1988, Ruth remained in Lakeway and eventually met, and in 1994 married, her favorite Aggie, Block Olbrich. For twelve happy years Ruth and Block enjoyed traveling, golf and spending time with their families and dear friends in Lakeway and all over the U.S. Ruth derived her greatest joy from being a wife and mother, taking care of her home and extended family, and being with her golf and bridge buddies. She will always be remembered as a beautiful, positive, and outgoing person. Our lives were enriched and brightened by her, and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A memorial service in celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Friday, January 12, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Lakeway Ecumenical Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., Lakeway, TX. The family wishes to thank the members of the team from Hospice Austin for their loving care in Ruth's final months.
