Sally McIntosh Obituary

Sally Benge (Rau) McIntosh, 89, passed away on December 27, 2024. Born in San Angelo, Texas, to Sallie Jeanne (Benge) Rau and Charles Howard Rau. Sally was also raised by her loving grandparents, Marian Virginia (Goldwire) Benge and Archer Holmes Benge. She married her high school sweetheart, Bernard Wallace McIntosh, on May 5, 1956.

As a devoted military wife for 24 years, Sally embraced the adventure of frequent moves, living in Texas, California, Alaska, North Carolina, Ohio, and Germany. The family eventually settled in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she resided for over 20 years. She returned to Texas in her later years, making her home in Austin for the final 30 years of her life.

Sally began her education at Stephens College in Missouri and University of Texas at Austin before embarking on her life as a military wife. She continued her studies later at the University of Hawaii, earning her bachelor's and master's degrees. She generously shared her time and talents through volunteer work, lending her support to organizations reflecting her passions. These included Greyhound Pets of America - Central Texas, CASA Austin, the Austin Animal Center, PFLAG Hawaii and Austin, Out Youth, and the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.

Sally's kindness and compassion extended to the many charitable causes she supported. Her deep love for animals, and her commitment to the people who care for them, was a lifelong priority.

Sally is survived by her children: Bruce (Renee Willmon), Marian Yasuda (Neal), Sarah (Andrea Stout), and John (Pnina); as well as her granddaughter, Kylee, and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Sally's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on February 8 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church; 14311 Wells Port Drive.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sally's name to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Galgos del Sol, Greyhound Adoption League of Texas, or Saffron Trust.
