Sara Ley Guice Allred

Sara Allred Obituary

(11/10/2002)Sara Ley Guice Allred Daughter of Robert Rivers and Martha Emily (Ley) Guice, Sara Ley was born on November 10, 1916, in Orlando, Florida. She spent an idyllic childhood growing up by the ocean, despite having been born with severe asthma and not expected to live beyond childhood. She was 85 years old when she gently slipped away October 1, 2002. Small in stature, but ``larger than life'', she was admired for her bright personality, intellect and keen sense of humor. She was a gracious hostess, a fabulous cook and a captivating storyteller. As a young adult she lived in the Philippines and in Italy while serving in the American Red Cross during World War II. Upon her return to the states, she met the love of her life, a young and dashing newspaper editor, James L. Allred, who fell in love with her at first sight. They were married six weeks later on November 9, 1946. Theirs was a wonderful marriage, as they remained best friends and partners in addition to their deep and unconditional love for each other. Admired and respected in the communities where they lived, (Memphis, Tenn., Dallas, Tex., and Ajijic, Mexico), their home was always the center of activity and friends and family were always welcome. They raised two children in a loving and generous home. Jim died on February 1, 1989. Surviving her are her children, Martha Ley ``Leya'' Allred (Phillip D. Walker) of Austin, Texas, and James L. Allred (Felicia Warren Allred) of Amarillo, Texas; her sister, Frances (Mrs. Lewis Garner) of Alexandria, Virginia; brother-in-law and sister-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Nestor of Ft. Worth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her last ten years were spent living with Leya and Phil at their home in the Hudson Bend Community of Lake Travis. She was always a wonderful gardner and loved the lake area with its beautiful scenery and wildlife. It was her request, there was no funeral service, but friends and family are invited to a celebratiuon of her life, today on her birthday, to be held in the Longview Suite at the Vintage Villas on Lake Travis starting at 3:00 p.m. She was such a beautiful person - she is missed terribly.
