Stan Shaw Obituary

Stan Shaw, a remarkable husband, father, brother, friend, and disciple, completed his earthly journey on March 8, 2025, and left for his True Home with the Lord. Born Stanley Alton in Washington, D.C. on January 15, 1944, to Helen and Alton Shaw, he weighed only 2 lbs. 13 oz. but survived to live a healthy, long life. Stan experienced the adventurous childhood of an Army brat, spending a number of years in both China and Germany as well as in several American states before coming to Austin to finish high school.

He originally studied Aerospace Engineering at the University of Texas with plans to become an astronaut, but after years of schooling, he took his love of numbers and began working as an accountant, owning his own business for most of his long career. In 1965, he married Jan Metcalf and had two wonderful children, Sherrise and Jeff. With the exception of a couple of years in Idaho, he lived in the Austin area the rest of his life, but he traveled extensively, especially in Mexico, Southeast Asia, and many times to India.

In 1995 Stan married Betty Martin Milstead after a long courtship, and they enjoyed almost thirty more happy years together dancing, talking, and journeying through life. Stan was a kind, gentle, friendly, intelligent, athletic, wise man interested in everything "weird" and beloved by all. He is greatly missed by his wife Betty, daughter Sherrise (Mike), son Jeff (Maria), brother Wade (Patty), stepson Richard, stepdaughter Mary (Nathan), eight precious grandchildren, and countless other treasured family members and friends.

A long-time vegetarian, Stan would appreciate a donation benefitting animals (or another charity of your choice).

Will ALWAYS remember being at Dera and the support Stan and Betty gave me with a crisis in my life. Just being able to share with friends who were non judgmental and even sharing similar experiences greatly helped me focus and enjoy the true purpose of the visit. They were integrated as a united unit - so amazing!

Remembering Stan, whose kindness, smile, and sense of wonder touched everyone who knew him.
He had a way of turning any conversation into an adventure - his fascinating and adventurous childhood memories from China, talking about far-off travels, or getting lost in deep discussions about solar eclipses even figuring out mathematically best places for the view and his love of number where every story somehow was attached to a number :) :)
Always present, always smiling, and always bringing light to those around him - he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Betty, thanks for sending this! So sorry for the loss of your sweet husband. So unexpected. Praying for comfort in all your amazing memories of Stan. It sounds like he had quite a life...and I'm sure YOU were a big part of his happiness. Your memories of your trips to India together will give you continued joy, I'm sure. Wish we lived closer so I could give you a big hug...but know you're loved and thought of often. And we both know Stan is in a better place...love you sweet cousin...
