Timothy Herron Obituary
Timothy Powell ("Tim") Herron, father to six, Poppa Tim to six grandchildren, and successful trial lawyer, passed away on March 10th, 2023.
Tim was born on October 18th, 1952 to the late Leonard "Bill" and Kathryn (Powell) Herron. His first job in life was that of big brother to his sister Cherry (Herron) Sossamon. He consoled her when she was sad and met her frequent requests to make her laugh. He carried this desire to make others laugh throughout his life. Whether it was juvenile humor, "dad" jokes, or a joke at his own expense, he enjoyed creating laughter.
After success as a college debater at UNT and TCU, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees, Tim became the debate coach at Samford University in Birmingham before focusing his advocacy skills on the practice of law. The family of the Watergate prosecutor, Leon Jaworski had created a full tuition scholarship to Jaworski's alma mater, Baylor Law School. Tim was the first recipient in the nation to receive this honor.
Tim's lunches and dinners with friends and family were where many memories were made. He was known to order an excessive amount of appetizers and encouraged everyone to eat dessert. Most meals ended with Tim exclaiming "There is a nap with my name on it".
What made Tim beloved by those closest to him were his imperfections. He was fiercely competitive and was known to hold a grudge. He often doled out terrible advice but was always there to encourage and support those he loved. Most recently, his high blood pressure forced him to retire from political fights on social media but he continued to curse those of opposing viewpoints.
Tim relished being a father to his kids as they became young adults. He took pride in their accomplishments and apologized profusely if he ever failed to answer their calls. Tim is survived by his wife Che and their two children: Austen and Regan. He is also survived by his first wife Diane Gulden and their four daughters: Courtney West, Whitney Warmack, Hillary Meador, and Caitlin. He adored his six grandchildren: Delaney, Barton, Winifred, Harriet, Kieran, and Fergus . He leaves behind his sister Cherry and her husband Michael.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to American Civil Liberties Union.
