Wiley Gilmore
Wiley Gilmore was born in Clarksville Texas on June 2,1934 and died on April 30,2021 in Round Rock. He graduated from Rockdale High School in 1951, then in 1955 from North Texas State University. Upon college graduation he entered U.S. Air Force. During the Vietnam war he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission he flew in November 1972.
After 21 years military service, Wiley retired and became a commercial pilot. While working for Rio Airways he attended Texas A&M and earned a 2nd bachelor's degree in Journalism. Wiley then worked at the Round Rock Leader as a reporter and editor. Wiley and his wife Helen moved to Georgetown in 1984.
His pastimes were music and theater. His instruments were trombone, tuba, and harmonica. Wiley sang in the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown Choir's bass section. Wiley performed in many "Mystery Night" fundraisers for the Round Rock Public Library and the Literacy Council of Williamson County. He acted in both Southwestern University Summer Stage and Palace Theater productions and in many "You Can't Do that Dan Moody" productions.
As a member of Sertoma, he volunteered for several 4th of July celebrations in San Gabriel Park and was part of crews that placed American flags in front of sponsoring businesses in Georgetown on national holidays.
Wiley is survived by his wife, Helen Gilmore of Georgetown; his son Mike Gilmore and wife Caroline of Cantonment FL; his daughter Elesha Muzzy of Pensacola, FL; his grandsons: Michael Gilmore; Jacob Gilmore; Christopher Muzzy; Jonathan Muzzy; and his granddaughter Lacy Biehl and her husband Justin. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mary Virginia Gilmore of Rockdale TX.
Memorial services will be held June 12 in the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown sanctuary at 11 a.m.
Internment services will be later in June at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Williamson County A&M Club Foundation, the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown Foundation, or The Georgetown Palace Theater.
