William Beightler Obituary

Dr. William John Beightler Dr. William John Beightler was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 22, 1957. He died at his home on July 26, 2010 after a 17 year battle with cancer. He is survived by his father, Dr. Charles Sprague Beightler; his mother, Patricia Ann Beightler; his wife of 26 years, Dr. Eloise Liz Beightler; and his three children, Lauren, Leslie, and Robert. He is also survived by his four sisters and spouses, Dr. Judy and Dr. Dee Betts, Suzy and Jesse Whittenton, Dr. Carol and Dr. John Ziebert, and Dr. Barbara and Dr. Scot McDonnell. Bill loved his many nieces and nephews, and all of his extended Atkinson family. Bill grew up in Austin, Texas and graduated from Anderson High School in 1976. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of Texas in Austin in 1980, and medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas in 1984. He completed his internship and residency in Anesthesiology at UTMB in 1988. He later became a Clinical Assistant Professor at UTMB in the Department of Anesthesiology. In 1990, he moved to Harlingen, Texas for private practice in Anesthesiology before relocating to San Antonio in 1993. Bill had many interests and hobbies, including playing electric guitars, rock 'n roll music, cycling, and snow skiing. He was an avid historian, especially the study of war history. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, but his greatest passion was Texas Longhorn Football. He cherished and was extremely proud of all three of his children. Memorial Service Friday, July 30, 2010 1:00 p.m. Porter Loring North Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
