Adam Hooper Obituary

Adam Paul (Hoops) Hooper

December 19, 1973 - December 16, 2015

Adam Paul Hooper (41) died at Salem Hospital on Wednesday December 16, 2015 due to complications from Type 1 diabetes.

He was born December 19, 1973 in Salem, the son of Randy and Shirlee Hooper. He attended Salem public schools, and graduated from Sprague High School in 1993. Adam attended Western Oregon University, where he received his Bachelor and Master's Degree in Education. Parrish Middle School is where Adam made his home for the last 14 years. During his time at Parrish, Adam also coached and assisted in Football and Track.

Adam would do almost anything to nurture, motivate and encourage his students, both in and out of the classroom. Every day he left for work, he reflected on his personal mantra (taped to the door of his home): "Get to know your students and make it work"

Adam taught his students more than state required curriculum, he showed his students how to excel in their strengths & challenges, to give of themselves, and support their Parrish community. Numerous times Adam allowed students to shave his head in the name of meeting the food drive goals, he even sanctioned being duct taped to a wall and allowed the kids to throw eggs at him. Adam also volunteered for many years with City of Salem Recreation Programs coaching basketball. Volunteering was a priory for him.

Adam's sense of humor, unwavering loyalty, intelligent and generous spirit made us treasure him as a teacher, friend, brother and son.

Adam is survived by his parents Randy & Shirlee Hooper (Salem), sister Shanan, brother-in-law Kenny and his niece Sydney all from Newberg, OR. He is also survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Adam's family will be holding a casual reception to honor his life, on Sunday December 27th from 1:00p - 5:00p at the Marion County Fire Station #1, located at 322 Cordon Road NE, near State street (It's the old firehouse). Please bring your favorite memories and stories to share.

Adam's family would also like to thank every single person that has shown overwhelming love and support during this difficult time. Words cannot describe how much it is appreciated.

He will be missed greatly!

Randy, Shirlee and family. Although we only knew him as a child, Adam obviously grew into an amazing young man that left footprints on the lives and hearts of so many people. What a wonderful legacy. Although I didn't have any classes with Mr. Hooper, I know that he was an amazing person and teacher. He pushed his students to be the best they could and encouraged them to reach their full potential. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. He's in a better place now.

Mr.Hooper was my favorite teacher in Parrish Middle School. He was funny and out going and he pushed you to do better when he knew your weren't giving your best. He was the number one teacher to work at Parrish Middle School and I'm proud to say he was my teacher.

Mr. Hooper was my first English teacher in public school. His class put me on the path of curiousity about creative writing. I still have some of my projects from that class. Gave my first speech there, too. He was a good teacher. Funny and serious at the same time. Wish he wasn't gone. I've lost 2 English teachers now and without them I probably wouldn't be where I am now. So thank you Mr. Hooper. Hope to see you again someday! Merry Christmas

Adam was the greatest teacher I ever had. He taught me many things, I wouldn't be who I am today without him. He was a great man. I am sad I didn't get to say goodbye. Or that I can't make his funeral. He will always have a place in my heart.

Prayers goes out to his family <3

I'm sorry to hear about Adam's passing. How tragic. We were friends when we were young, then drifted apart. He never could teach me to play sports, but we played a lot of computer games and spent quite a few nights staying up way too late and eating junk food! We also set traps to catch his sister, but we never could. I think she was on to us. I'll miss you, Adam.

Shanan and family:

I'm so sorry for your loss and the loss to his community. He sounds like an amazing teacher. He graduated from the same college as my dad, who was also a retired teacher. Peace and comfort to you in this time of loss. Xoxo

I am so sorry for the loss of my cousin Adam. I have so many childhood memories that he has always been a part of. I haven't seen him in many years but it sounds like he had become an amazing man, friend, teacher, son and human being. The world will miss him. May he rest in peace. May the way he lived his life bring comfort to his family during this time of overwhelming grief! I love you Aunt Shirlie, Uncle Randy, Shanan and family! (((Hugs)))
