Harry Barber Obituary
December 27, 1921 - April 26, 2017
Our family has lost a true hero. Harry "Pappy" died from a surgery complication. We are so grateful for the love of this dear man. He and his wife, Marg, were married 71 years at the time of her passing in 2013. She had suffered a stroke in 2007 and he lovingly sat beside her every day. They were a perfect example of the true meaning of love. A bench will be placed at Millennium Plaza Park, Lake Oswego, in their honor.
Harry was a World War II hero serving under General Patton and surviving five beach landings. He received a purple heart for his bravery. He proudly wore his WWII hat and enjoyed riding his blue scooter with an American flag waving. He was always happy and positive. Pappy was a huge animal lover
He moved from Salem to Lake Oswego after his wife died to be close to his daughters. He especially loved the 4th of July parade in Lake Oswego with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participating. He was loved and treasured by all.
His daughter, Nora, died in 2014, and he visited her bench daily in Millennium Park.
He is survived by his son, Del, daughter, Estelle, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Military service will be at River View Cemetery, 0300 SW Taylors Ferry Road, Portland, Oregon, on Friday, June 30th at 2 p.m. (a short distance from Lake Oswego).
Remembrances may be made to Willamette Humane Society, 4246 Turner Rd. SE, Salem 97317.
