James Dimit Obituary

James Dimit

Salem - James M. Dimit was born and raised in Salem, Oregon with his brother. He was born to James F. and Margaret V. Dimit on 2/17/43 in Salem, Oregon. His brother Gary C. Dimit was born 1 ½ years later.

Jim went to Englewood Elementary School, Parish Middle School and graduated from North Salem High School where he lettered in football. He had many good memories and wasn't hesitant to talk about those days with friends and acquaintances. After high school Jim attended Columbia Basin College and Linfield College. While he attended CBC, Jim participated in the 17th Annual Junior Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on December 12, 1962. Even though they didn't win that game it was a great experience for all. On January 24, 2020 Jim and the team were inducted in the Hall of Fame at CBC and each received a trophy which he enjoyed telling people about.

After school Jim joined the Marine Reserves.

Jim accepted the Lord in 1974 and attended The Peoples Church where he met Judy Olfert, his wife of 45 years. Jim was always concerned about others knowing his Lord and Savior. He prayed for friends and family members daily. He carried a card in his wallet on how to lead others to the Lord.

Jim was a general contractor for 12 years from 1975 thru 1986. During those years he built spec and custom homes. In 1986 he went to work for Teen Challenge Pacific Northwest Centers as the Men's Executive Director from 1986 thru 2006. He enjoyed working with men who struggled with addictive life-styles bringing them back to wholeness and Christian principles.

Jim had a soft heart in regards to cats. He took in stray cats from the neighborhood and made sure they had food to eat.

Jim is preceded in death by his father and mother and is survived by his wife, Judy and brother, Gary C. Dimit from Waco, Texas.

There will be a graveside service on May 12, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Dallas Cemetery at 2065 SW Fairview Ave, Dallas, Oregon. The Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center is caring for the family. www.dallastribute.com

Jim and I worked together for several years. He built our first house in 1978. I was one of his first builds and I am quite sure he barely broke even with all the upgrades he did. When Jim and Judy were dating, my wife and I would enjoy double dating to the Old Speghetti Factory off of Burnside in Portland. I played on his annual Thanksgiving day mud bowl team that he would organize each year. He would always try to recruit former local HS standouts. Of course we played tackle in the mud in the old former NS baseball field near his home off of Norway St. NE. Even though it has been many years since we’ve been in contact, I have fond memories of Jim and Looking forward to the day we can catch up in the hereafter. Thoughts and prayers to those he left behind.

Will always have fond memories of the "Big Guy" Jim had a big heart and was a lot of fun. He was a big part of my childhood and he and Judy did the dishes at my wedding. Judy and Jim have always had servant hearts. I used to compete with my dad Mike Hodges for phone time. I had to get on the phone before Dimit called or I lost my chance for the evening! He used to give me 'Pogey Bait' when I visited the office. Going out to eat with Jim was always an experience :) Thinking of Judy during this difficult time.

Jim was a great encouragement and help to me during my years in Salem. His love for God and others will love forever.

Jim and I were teammates and roommates in 1961 at Columbia Basin Collage. We remained friends every since then. I have many fond memories of those days we spent in college together. I will miss Jim forever.
