Maxine Bartruff Obituary

Maxine Meyers Bartruff

Salem - Maxine Meyers Bartruff died on March 17, 2018, after suffering a stroke. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Maxine was born on May 15, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, to Frank Meyers and Clara Couture Meyers. Maxine had three sisters and one brother, including her youngest sister Peggy Senske of Salem, Oregon, who survives her. Maxine grew up in Salem, Oregon, and attended Willamette University where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Business. She was proud to have served as the President of her sorority, Pi Beta Phi. She married Emery David Bartruff on October 16, 1949. Their marriage lasted forty-seven years until his death in 1997. They had five children, Jean Mulkey of Reedsport, John Bartruff of Salem, Jolene Crowther of Sublimity, Judi McCubbins of Salem, and Jackie Holley of Portland. Maxine has eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Maxine put herself through college working as an office manager for Hunt's Foods. She later worked as a Secretary for State Legislators Ben and Katherine Musa, the Oregon Criminal Law Revision Commission, and the Honorable Robert Foley. She finished her career working as a Deputy Court Administrator for the Oregon Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. Maxine was involved in several women's clubs and served as the President of the Salem Zenith Club. Maxine put the needs of her family above her own. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she ensured that all of her children attended college and remained close as adults. Maxine and David spent their retirement years traveling with the Good Sam Club and volunteering at the Salem Mission Mill. She enjoyed gardening, reading, interior decorating, collecting antiques, and Oregon history. Above all else, she enjoyed spending time with her family. An open house to celebrate Maxine's life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 on Saturday, March 24th in the Dye House at the Willamette Heritage Center, 1313 Mill St. SE, Salem, Oregon 97301. The family suggests donations to the Willamette Heritage Center or the Casey Eye Institute Macular Degeneration Center in lieu of flowers. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
