Michael D. "Mike" Barker

Michael "Mike" D. Barker March 10, 1947 - July 17, 2009 PORTLAND - Michael "Mike" D. Barker, 62, passed away on July 17, 2009 in Portland. He was born March 10, 1947 in Medford. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from Southern Oregon College and a Master's Degree from Oregon College of Education and served in the U.S. Army at a Specialist 5 (PVI) from 1971-1973. Mike worked for the Oregon Dept. of Education, N.W. Regional Education Service District and Multnomah Education Service District from 1973 - 2008. He married Pam Hawkins on August 8, 1981 in Pendleton. His hobbies included fishing, hiking, cooking, birdwatching and writing. Mike was deeply committed to a spirituality that was grounded in the Native American culture. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Dean Barker; and brother, Tim Barker. Mike is survived by his wife, Pam Hawkins; mother, Merle Barker; daughter, Kindra Barker; son, Josh Barker and his wife Kate; grandchildren, Maddison Henshaw (Kindra's daughter) and Charlie and Jamie Kuhry (Josh's children); and brother, Steve Barker and his wife Ruth of Redmond, Wash.
