Neil McGill Obituary
SALEM - Neil Gibert McGill passed away peacefully October 14, 2005 in the loving care of his family, physicians, and the oncology staff at Salem Hospital. He died from complications resulting from cancer, which was diagnosed in August 2003.
Neil was born on March 24, 1929 in Grandview, Iowa, to Lawrence and Mary Bowden McGill. Neil spent his youth in Iowa and Biloxi, Miss. before joining the Navy in 1947. During his years of service to his country he was trained as an electrician. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), for 50 years. Neil was married to Mary Jane McGill for 41 years. They moved to Salem in 1969 where they raised their five children. They were later blessed with eleven grandchildren. Neil was preceded in death by Mary Jane in 1993. He remarried in 1995 to Dorothy Price McGill. Together they enjoyed spending time with their family and many friends, traveling, and puttering in their garden. Neil was an avid reader and could often be found reading a good western novel.
He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of ten years; her sons, Jim Price, Randy and Cari Price, all of Salem; his brother, Don McGill, sister, Betty Burgess, sister, Jane and Glen Hawkins, all of Biloxi, Miss; son, Larry and Peggy McGill and their children, Kaitlin, Ryan, and Colin of Menlo Park, Calif.; daughter, Julie and William Francis and their sons, Christian and Loren of Salem; daughter, Maribeth and Chad Mattson and their children, Chelsea, Emily, and Nathan of Salem; daughter, Patty and Gordon Cromwell and their children, Cody, Callie, and Cara of North Bend; and son, Paul and Dianne McGill of Salem.
We will miss your wit and wisdom, your gentle strength and spirit,
and the joy that you shared with all that you knew.
We are honored that you were a light in our lives.
We will miss YOU, the foundation of our family. Rest peacefully.
