Carla Dawn Hedges, 58, of St. Augustine, went to her heavenly home after a valiant battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family when she succumbed peacefully at Stuart Meyer Hospice House on Sunday, May 17, 2009.
She was born in New Castle, Pa., and attended Stroudsburg High School. She designed gift baskets for Davidson Brothers Fruit before her retirement. One of her favorite memories was attending the Ormond Beach Police Department Citizens Police Academy with her sister. She was an immaculate homemaker and loved to be outdoors with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lois (Crowl) and Joseph Hura. She was a devoted wife to Richard Hedges, St. Augustine. She was a loving mother to her children, daughter Michelle Hineline-Crowell, Palm Coast, and sons Richard Hedges II, Daytona Beach, Chris Hineline, Holly Hill, Robert Hedges, Palm Coast, and Joseph Hedges, St. Augustine. She was a caring grandmother to Cassidy Crowell and Sarah Hedges, both of Palm Coast, and Chance Hedges, Daytona Beach. She was a best friend to her sisters, Wenona Luddeni, St. Augustine, and Sandy Neyhart, Strousburg, Pa. She was an enamored friend to many.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Craig Funeral Home Chapel in St. Augustine, with Pastor Chuck McKeown of United Brethren in Christ officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stuart Meyer Hospice House, 150 Memorial Medical Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32164.
Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

Rich and family, Words are hard to find at a time like this. The Bible tells us when we walk through those Majestic Gates, we are walking on streets of gold. Carla has now come face to face with God her Heavenly Father. May you find comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering. From talks with the boys, we believe she was a true soldier and fought a hard fight to the end. May you now find comfort in family and friends. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Ken and Dena
