Dorothy Baker Obituary

Dorothy Comstock Baker, passed on Dec. 30, 2014, to God"s Eternal Paradise. She was the beloved wife of Robert G. Baker, a loving mother to her five children and their families.

Survivors include: Robert G. and Norma Barnes Baker, James and Elizabeth Robertson Baker, Dan and Cissy Baker Allison, Lynda Baker, and Lyndon J. Baker (deceased); beloved sister to her six siblings and their families, William Comstock (deceased) and Claire Comstock, John L. Comstock (deceased) and Marge Comstock, Mary Jeanne Comstock Ohlhaver (deceased), Ferne Anita Comstock Kruger and Don Kruger (deceased), Robert F. and Jean Herring Comstock, and Regis and Barbara K. Comstock Nalepka; generous grandmother to 14 and their families, Robert Baker III, Timothy Baker, Jason Baker, Christopher Baker, Cameron Baker, Spencer Baker, Angelica Allison Goldman, Daniel Allison, Alexandra Allison, Patrick Allison, Kathryn Allison, Jonathan Allison, Megan Allison, and Brian Baker; and awesome great-grandmother to 9, Robert Baker IV, Kevin Baker, Lillian Baker, Bridgette Baker, Alexander Baker, Randall Carver, Isabella Novak, Genevieve Goldman, and Kylie Allison Reid.

She was born on March 31, 1927, at home in Toluca, Ill., to William Bryan Comstock and Mary Euseba Durham; Dorothy was the middle of seven children. Excelling in her studies, she graduated high school at 16 and was hired by the federal government. She moved to Washington during the second world war to work as a secretary for Senator Lucas from Illinois. From there, she worked for Senator Nixon, Senator McCarran and eventually she became the office manager for the Internal Security Subcommittee under Senator James Eastland. She was a dedicated and valued employee of the United States.

She will be best remembered as a loving, kind, and generous daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her was captivated by her. She was generous to a fault, donating to innumerous charities and causes and of course her family. She was a lifelong devout Catholic and will be deeply and truly missed.

A service will take place at 9 a.m. Jan. 20 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bailey Center for Caring c/o Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.

Aunt Dottie, I am so devastated by your passing. You were loved so very much by my father, your brother Jack, and his family. I will always remember your laugh that sounded so much like my fathers. You were always so kind, and gave me a lot of good advice that I truly took to heart (eventually). Thank you for being so generous with your knowledge, and experiences. Love, John William Comstock
