Fran J. Davidson

Fran J. Davidson of St. Augustine, Fla., died on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, after a brief period of declining health. He was 90 years old. Fran is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline; his daughter, Kathy Ryan and son-in-law Michael of Greenville, S.C.; his son, Daniel and daughter-in-law Pat of Palm Coast, Fla.; and his daughter, Tena Tully and son-in-law Paul of Lowell, Mass.; and was predeceased by his daughters Candace and Susan. Fran's grandchildren include Karen Roth and her husband Jeff, Derek Davidson and his girlfriend Lisa Dore, Amy Woodruff and her husband Willie, Matt Ryan, Hannah Ryan, Nick Warren, Arielle Warren, Ben Jackson, and Nathan Jackson and his wife Jill. He had 10 great-grandchildren. Fran was born in Boston, Mass., on Jan. 31, 1923, to Samuel and Rosella Davidson. He finished his career with Interstate Container in Lowell, Mass. He was a man of two other passions: his family and golf. He spent his long and happy retirement in Northeast Florida, where he could be found right through his 80s at St. John's County Golf Course. He would proudly tell anyone who asked about his four holes-in-one, and every time he made the story seem fresh.

He plans to spend eternity on the driving range with those who beat him there, waiting the rest of us out, with a martini chilling in the freezer.

There will be a private family service in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Fran's name to the Knights of Columbus Council 11046, 1112 State Road 16, St. Augustine, FL 32084.
