What a memorable and giving man Jim was! And so talented. I told him often that he was a Renaissance man--artist, teacher, story-teller, gardener, and those probably only scratch the surface.
I have known Jim only since November, when I became a Master Gardener. He was a larger than life person, one whom, though I knew him only a short time, touched me with his humor and his gentleness. He was one in a million, one whose spirit will live on in my memory and will always cause me to smile. What a legacy that is!
My love, Linda Farnan(AMODEO)

It's hard to know where to begin, I have such found memories of Uncle Jim. Whenever he came for a visit he greeted us with a warm welcoming hug and a big smile.Every time we get a big rain and drive over the falls I remind my kids how when I was about ten Uncle Jim took me and some siblings to climb up the falls right after a heavy rain storm. What a feeling that was to have the water rushing in your face! Uncle Jim always took the time to play with us during his visits he taught me and my brothers how to "properly" play marbles. He was a pretty mean marble shooter.I also have never had a bowl of Butter Pecan ice cream without thinking of uncle Jim and probally never will, Good Stuff:)Please know aunt Jenny and all of my dear cousins you are in my heart and prayers. This has been a difficult time for the family. But, you know I don't think Uncle Jim wanted Uncle Mike having all the fun:) God Bless them both!

My heart grieved with the news of Uncle Jim's illness. Even more so that he passed so quickly - so soon after losing Uncle Mike - we will never be able to understand why things happen as they do...but we can reflect on how our lives have been touched by the presence of those in it. Memories of Uncle Jim are very dear to me - I think back to my childhood visiting on the farm - and his visits here to NY, and the time he always took to know each of his nieces and nephews. Although I cannot be there personally, I am there in spirit. My thoughts and prayers are with all of my dear cousins, whom sadly I do not see nearly enough, now and through the days to come.

On behalf of myself personally and also the Board of Directors of the St. Augustine Art Association, I wish to send our deepest sympathy to Jim's family. Jim ran a children's art camp at our Association for quite a while and we all got to know him. Just recently he again helped us with advice and literature on improving our landscaping. He was a man of many talents and was so generous of his time. He also gave me help personally on my own gardening problems; what a lovely guy. He will be greatly missed.
Pam Pahl, President St. Augustine Art Association.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
The sunshine warm upon your face
The rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
