JAMES MCNABB Obituary

James (Jim) M. McNabb, 80, of St. Augustine, Florida passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Bailey Family Center Community Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 17 at 11 AM at Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor W. Hunter Camp II officiating. Inurnment will be in the columbarium in the garden at Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Jim was born December 9, 1937 in Santa Monica, CA, the son of James M. and Helen H. McNabb. He grew up in Santa Monica, attending school there. He attended the University of Oregon for one year before joining the United States Navy. Jim married his first wife, Dorothy Beynon, in 1957. Three children were born to this union, Doris Lee, James Malcolm, and Kevin John. After being released from active duty in the Navy, he went to work for Driver-Eddy Construction Company where he spent twenty-three years rising to the position of general manager.
Jim and Janet Sass were married Dec. 28, 1968 in the Sass family farmhouse in Holstein, Iowa during a blizzard. They lived in Newport Beach, CA for many years where they enjoyed living aboard and chartering their sailboat. A two year sailing trip to the Galapagos and the South Pacific on their 40' sailboat, Honey Wind, was a highlight of his life. In the early 80's Jim and Janet sailed from Newport Beach, CA to St. Augustine, FL which became their home for the remainder if their years. Before retiring, they owned and managed Lakeside Apartments, and he started First Mate Yacht Services at Camachee Cove. Another pleasant pastime was traveling in their RV exploring the U.S. and Canada and Volunteering at Custer State Park in South Dakota. However his favorite time was spent in their home here in St. Augustine with family and friends around.
Jim was a Trustee and active member of Memorial Presbyterian Church, a Lifetime Member and Past Commodore of the St. Augustine Yacht Club, and enjoyed volunteering at Council on Aging Cutters and Clippers.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife Janet, children Doris Gardner and James McNabb Jr. (wife Lori), grandchildren Nicole Richardson (husband Ryan) and Justin McNabb, great grandchildren Justin Jr., Zarah, and Cameron, sister Sue Ottman, brother John Hessell, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kevin, and brother Bobby.
As he traveled this beautiful earth Jim loved the life, the family and friends God granted him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Memorial Presbyterian Church Trustees, the Bailey Family Center Community Hospice, or St. Augustine Yacht Club McNabb Memorial fund.
Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
