Julius Ray "Jimmy" Dodd

1927 - 2018

Julius Ray "Jimmy" Dodd Jr., 91, a native and lifelong resident of St. Augustine, died peacefully of natural causes on Dec. 19 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. Jimmy was born on Nov. 2, 1927, at the East Coast Hospital in St. Augustine to Julius Ray Dodd Sr. and Eugenia "Genie" Casey Dodd.

Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Yvonne Pacetti Dodd; his parents Julius Ray Dodd Sr. and Genie Casey Dodd, and his brother Robert "Bobby" Dodd. He is survived by his 4 children Jay, St. Augustine, Kelly (Laura) St. Augustine, Patty DeHaan (Tom) Gainesville, and Tommy (Kathy) St. Augustine. He's also survived by nine grandchildren; Meghan Dodd, Daniel Dodd, Jacob Taylor, Jordan Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Casey DeHaan, Laura Lawson (Andrew), Christy Dodd and Rachel Dodd.

Jimmy enlisted in the USMC Paris Island in 1944 at age 17 to dutifully serve his country during WWII on the Battleship New Jersey. He was honorably discharged four years later, returned to St. Augustine where he met his future bride Yvonne Lenore Pacetti. Yvonne and Jimmy were married on Sept. 1, 1952. He later joined the Florida National Guard, worked 39 years at the Military Affairs Headquarters before his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer IV. Upon his retirement, Jimmy and Yvonne enjoyed golfing and volunteering at the Friends of the Library and St. Anastasia Catholic Church where they were members.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at 1 p.m. at Craig's Funeral Home, with a memorial service to begin at 2 p.m. and burial to follow at San Lorenzo Catholic Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined and the family asks that donations be made to the Veterans Council of St. Johns County, Inc. P.O. Box 2117, St. Augustine, FL 32085-2117.
