Lorrita Kass Obituary

Lorrita (Rita) Snyder Kass passed away on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at home after a brief illness.

The youngest child of Saul and Sarah Snyder, she was born on June 7, 1915, in Flagler Hospital. A lifelong resident of St. Augustine, she graduated from Ketterlinus High School and graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1938.

Rita and husband Jerry were an inseparable team. While he was doing community service, she was in the home taking care of their children and being the background support for all of his activities. There was never I or me, he or she, but always us and ours.

Rita was a member of the Congregation Sons of Israel.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jerome (Jerry) G. Kass; son, Barry (Carol) Kass and daughter Robin Kass Burchfield (Rick), both of St. Augustine; grandchildren Joshua (Theresa) Kass, Jonathan Kass, Shayna (Chad) Kearney, Adam Burchfield and Sarah Burchfield; and two great-grandchildren, Quinn Kass and Casey Kearney.

Graveside funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Congregation Sons of Israel Cemetery on Evergreen Street.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing may make a contribution to Community Hospice Foundation, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257. Craig Funeral Home  Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry, Robin and Barry

I have enjoyed seeing Miss Rita over the years. From Kiwanis projects to when they use to "walk the mall" and lately just at a restaurant having breakfast in the morning.

Jerry and Rita have always been a couple and I can not imagine it any different.
