Marcus Nevacoff, beloved husband and friend, died on Jan. 17, 2011, at Flagler Hospital.
It is with deep sadness we report his loss. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Aug. 26, 1949. He was a decorated Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving three tours of duty and receiving three Purple Hearts, as well as many other military honors.
His passions and interests included being a community activist, an author, a historian and a true "Renaissance Man." He is also remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his devotion to Nancy and his two weimaraners.
Marcus is survived by his wife, Nancy; two children, Rachel and Adam; and granddaughter, Isabela.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Craig Funeral Home with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to Florida Weimaraner Rescue Inc. (flweimrescue.com) or Freedom Service Dogs (freedomservicedogs.org).
Craig Funeral Home Crematory Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.

Nancy:
So sorry to hear of your loss. Both of us were aware that we hadn't heard from Marcus for quite some time. We were hoping for the best...but were aware of what the reason might be. We miss his wit, sense of humor and the way he has with words. It has been a good long time since we were in high school, but it is always nice to touch bases with someone who walked the same halls and had some of the same teachers and knew some of the same people. I hope that you have found comfort with your family and friends who knew him and loved him.

Nancy,
We just found out about Marcus passing away in finding his obituary on line. I attended high school with him along with another mutual friend, Paula.
We had been keeping touch with him via email for the past few years. Our thoughts are with you and have been over the past few years in knowing about his ALS...
He will always be missed by those who knew him...

Nancy,
Marcus passed through our lives in New Jersey from 1989-1994. His stories of Alaska and how he got to Oregon with Heathcliff were amazing. My kids and I and the friends he made here will always remember him. I'm very sorry for your loss. He was a presence.
