Marie Nader Obituary
Marie Helen Nader, age 104 of St. Augustine, FL passed away January 5, 2020 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. She was born in Portland, Maine. Her family moved to Jacksonville, FL where she attended grade school and in the 1930's she moved to St. Augustine and graduated from Ketterlinus High School. Along with her sisters Annie Nader Pfaff and Yvonne Nader Pearrow they opened the Amavon Shop of Ladies Ready Wear. The name Amavon was a combination of the sisters names. The shop first opened on St. George St and later moved to King Street, in the now Casa Monica Hotel building. They continue to operate the business working together for 40 years. Marie had been a member of the Women's Golf Association and the St. Augustine Pilot Club. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the Bridge Club. She was a faithful member of the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 AM Monday January 13, 2020 at the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Augustine, Reverend. Fr. Thomas Willis, celebrant. Visitation will be held 9:00 AM until the time of the service in the Cathedral. Burial will be in San Lorenzo Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined those wishing may make a contribution in Marie's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place • Memphis, TN 38105.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Matilda Nader, siblings, Annie Nader Pfaff, Yvonne Nader Pearrow, George Nader and Eli Nader.
She is survived by her brother Nicholas Nader and many nieces and nephews.

Definitely miss you Marie ! I think about you quite often! May your soul rest peacefully with the angels! I still have your bridge cards your family gave me and I am forever grateful! It was a pleasure taking care of you! My mother use to clean up for you and your sister when you had the shop downtown! Crazy how small the world is! Your definitely missed!!

My beautiful Aunt Marie. I cried like a child at your funeral. My uncle put it well when he said, "You may have only been 4 ft 11 inches, but you were always the biggest one in the room." For heaven's sake, you looked like the Queen of England all the way to the end. Such a fashion icon of the day. You were an incredible inspiration to me and taught me so much. You had such wisdom and discernment. I gave my daughter your name as her middle name to teach her that she can be and do anything in this world no matter what. I have told her of the story of how 3 beautiful young girls with immigrant parents started businesses, became successful, and were loved by their community long before women were recognized in such a way. I sorely miss you and my Aunt Annie, and Mimi and now my mom. Until we meet again my dear aunt, I love you! Kiss the rest for me. Your nephew Dave Cummings

I had the pleasure of taking care of Ms.Nader for the last two years ! My mother also cleaned her and her sister's shop and home !! She was one of my favorites and I was definitely one of hers !! I miss her dearly and think about her and our many conversations !! I'm just glad that I was blessed to have known her and to have taken care of her !! Silver Creek will NEVER be the same without you !! I love you Ms. Nader as I have told you plenty of times !! Thank you for all you have done for St. Augustine !! I will NEVER forget you !! May you rest in the arms of Jesus !!

Dad's eldest sister...Aunt Marie...passed away on Sunday...just 9 days shy of her 105th birthday...she was an amazing woman...a real pioneer...who was a role model for so many....including me...she was a wonderful and loving daughter, sister, aunt, friend, business owner, community leader, and so much more! Her wise counsel and wry humor and generous ways were something to be admired and emulated....we will miss her dearly....May she rest in peace in heaven above with my dad, her parents, brother and sisters, and other dear family members.
