Mario Taylor Obituary

Mario Taylor Sr., 88, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
Mr. Taylor was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Army and Navy and enlisting at only 16 years of age. He was truly one of the heroes of the "Greatest Generation." It was in the Navy where he learned the craft of refrigeration. In 1951, he married Clara Harrigan and also began his own business, Taylor Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. They were blessed with four children, and Mario would dedicate his life to his family, business and his community. He also had a great passion for deer hunting, fishing and baseball, and loved to vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains.
In 2014, Mario felt greatly honored when he was inducted into the Carrier Hall of Fame for Outstanding Business Leadership. His family was especially proud of him, considering he accomplished all of this on an eighth-grade education. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mario is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Clara Taylor, and sons, Robbie Taylor (Doreen) and Rebel Taylor (Julie); daughter, Trudy Sanders (Blake) and daughter-in-law, Marsha Taylor; sister, Maddie Fazio; and brother, Gene Taylor. Additionally, his legacy includes nine grandchildren, Wade, Tara, Tami, Jake, Tabitha, Lance, Lorie, Katie and Luke; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Mario (Butch) Jr., daughter-in-law, Hannah, and his sisters, Julia, Ivey, Agnes and Geraldine.
A memorial service, organized by Craig Funeral Home, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Anastasia Baptist Church, the Rev. Clarence Blalock, officiating, followed by a reception at the St. Augustine Shrine Club. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Craig Funeral Home. Mario will be laid to rest at Craig Memorial Park, where there will be a graveside Masonic ceremony.
Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made in Mario's name to St. Augustine Little League.
You are forever in our hearts, "Papa."
