Martin Halkin Obituary

Martin Lewis Halkin, 85, of St. Augustine died Feb. 14, 2007. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and grew up in Harlem and The Bronx. He served his country during World War II in the Philippines. After the war he went to college on the GI Bill, coached baseball, met his wife of 59 years and went into the family business. He was a member of Kiwanis and The St. Augustine Jazz Society. Throughout his life, he enjoyed baseball, football, basketball, boxing, swimming, tennis, golf, photography, dancing, travel, many types of music but mostly jazz, late night TV, and anything to do with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Long Island, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; daughters, Carolyn (Ken), Syossett, N.Y., Susan, New Zealand; son, Bill (Kathleen), St. Augustine; sister, Winnie, Valley Stream, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Bob.

In lieu of flowers, please make donation to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257. Gutterman's Funeral Home, New York, was in charge of arrangements.
