Martin J. McLaughlin, 89, of St. Augustine, passed away on May 22, 2012, at the Samantha Wilson Care Center at Bayview.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was a long-time resident of Patterson, N.Y. Martin served in the U.S. Army, under Gen. George Patton, during WWII. He was with the invading force at Normandy, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war he returned to New York and went to work for Con Edison, starting as a pipe fitter and retiring as a crane operator. He was chairman of the Democratic Club in Patterson, where he served as president. Martin moved to St. Augustine in 2005, after living in Michigan for many years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Virginia McLaughlin of St. Augustine; three daughters, Lorraine McLaughlin and Kathleen Price, and her husband, Daryl, all of St. Augustine, and Virginia Krawczuk of Pawling, N.Y.; a son, Martin J. McLaughlin, and his wife, Jean, of Montgomery, N.Y.; grandchildren, Jason Price, Kristie Reyes, Kathryn McLaughlin, Lorraine McLaughlin, Amy McLaughlin, Casey Krawczuk and Blake Krawczuk; and a great-grandson, Roderick Reyes.
Interment at Jacksonville National Cemetery and memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Martin"s memory may be made to the veteran"s charity of your choice.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I so much enjoyed Martin and Virginia while they were at The Allegro. Missed them both so much when they left. My thoughts and prayers are with you all with your loss.
