Norman Lewis Obituary

Norman Clarence "Nick" Lewis, died Oct. 13, 2009, at the Alexander Niniger "State Veterans Nursing Home, Pembroke Pines, Fla., following a long illness. He was 90 years old.

He was born in Painsville, Ohio, to Oscar Allen and Nina Frances Herrick Lewis and lived most of his life in New York and New Jersey. He worked as an auditor before moving to St. Augustine, Fla., where he retired.

He served as a corporal in the United States Army spending much time in the South Pacific before being honorably discharged in 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Mary H. Lewis, St. Augustine; a daughter, Mary Frances Lewis, Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Norman J. Lewis, Montpelier, Vt., and John C. Lewis, Chesterfield, N.J.; three step-daughters, Jeannie Taylor, St. Augustine, Darlene Kempl, and Donna Rodriquez of Lexington, Ky.; one step-son, Willis D. Burton of Okeechobee, Fla.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Military services with honors will be held at the gravesite at 11 a.m. Thursday morning, Nov. 19, 2009, at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

Genesis Funeral Home, Hollywood, Fla., assisted the Lewis family.
