Rodney Wayne "Poppy" Stevens

Rodney Wayne "Poppy" Stevens, age 64, of St. Augustine, died on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. He was born in Orlando, and moved to St. Augustine at a young age where he lived for most of his life. Rodney owned and operated Stevens Salvage Company in the St. Augustine area for many years. He also bought and sold heavy equipment, as well as just about anything that his customers wanted. He was a talented salesman. Rodney's true enjoyment came from fishing, and he even worked as a commercial fisherman for a while. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR, and especially Richard Petty. Above all, Rodney was a devoted companion, and a loving father and grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his companion of 30 years, who was the love of his life, "K.K." Gauch of St. Augustine; his mother, Katherine Prysblack of St. Augustine; daughters, Tammy Stevens Bartlett (Scott), Wendy Stevens Camerone (Ross), Angela Stevens Kennerly, all of St. Augustine; a son, Tony Stevens of High Point, N.C.; a step-son, Adam Gauch (Carrie) of St. Augustine; sisters, Jackie Masters (David) of St. Augustine, Susan Kite (Tim) of Green Cove Springs; brothers, Dennis Stevens (Beth), and Paul Millar, all of St. Augustine; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Stevens, and his father, W.L. "Speck" Stevens.

A funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A visitation, beginning at 5 p.m., will precede the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions to assist the family can be made at any Prosperity Bank, account in the name of Telisha Shugart or Deborah K. Gauch, donations for R.W.S.
