Thomas Stack Obituary

Thomas J. Stack, Jr., age 85, from St. Augustine, Fla., passed away peacefully in his beachfront home on Feb. 3, 2016. He went to be with our Lord just after sunrise, surrounded by family, with the gentle break of surf on sand, and soft music filling the halls of his home.
Thomas was a man of strong beliefs and an unwavering love of his family, faith and flag. After serving with the Air Force in the Korean War, Thomas married Valerie Ann Byrnes of the Bronx, N.Y. They raised six children in Kinnelon, N.J., where they were active parishioners of Our Lady of the Magnificat church, with Thomas serving as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He worked for AT&T in Manhattan for most of his career before starting Pow-R-Save, a successful small business in northern New Jersey.
In the initial years following his retirement, Thomas split his time between Mystic Island, N.J. and St. Augustine, Fla. There he shared his love of the ocean, boating, fishing, music and wine with his children, ten grandchildren and friends. He enjoyed the last years of his life on Saint Augustine's beach so he could look out over the ocean and all its grandeur, every day.
Thomas was preceded in death by Valerie, his wife and loving mother to their children, and a son Richard. He is survived by five successful children Kevin Stack, Thomas J. Stack III, Cathleen Stack Rugulo, Jeannine "Gigi" Stack McDonnell and Robert Stack; as well as ten grandchildren who will forever remember their "Pop-Pop." He is also survived by children-in-law Mary Stack, Avril Stack, Lou Rugulo, Wayne McDonnell, and Olga Stack. The family requests that any remembrances be sent as donations to the American Cancer Society in honor of Thomas and Valerie Stack. "Cheers to a wonderful life!"

Tommy, I spoke to Barbara today, the woman who took your dog "Lucky". Want you to know they are all doing well, and "Lucky" has adjusted to her new family. She always became aggressive when anyone came near you. I think she understood how sick you were, and she was going to protect her master. "Boston Terriers" are very smart. The good thing, is she is no longer aggressive, and is enjoying her new family. I thought you might like to know this. Paul and I still miss you, and pray for you everyday. Love you.

Our deepest sympathy to the Stack family, I only had the pleasure of meeting Tom once but spoke many times on the phone, I could tell he was a man of good character, one full of life, a kind man who expected professionalism and respect, he always told me that he liked the way I answered the phone for Pow/R/Save. May he rest in peace on the most beautiful beach in heaven and may happy memories fill your hearts with peace and bring you through this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with you all-Cindy, Rocky and Rocky Capasso

We will miss Tommy. So many good times spent with him. He was sort of our "Chairman of the Board", here in St Augustine. When he arrived, with his great smile, and bellowing voice, that fun would follow. He was one of a kind. The past year was very hard on him, he hated needing extra help with most things. We are glad we were able to help him. He was always so thankful. He leaves behind a little dog, Lucky, who loved him too. R.I.P our friend. Our prayers to all your family.

It was with sadness that we read of Tom's passing. We all shared many happy days that seem like only yesterday. He was a warm and welcoming friend and was there for us many times, even opening his home to us - a kindness that we will never forget. We send our sincere and heartfelt condolences to Kevin and the entire family, and will remember Tom and all of you, in our prayers. Joanne & Bob Roth

We are truly going to miss our dear Thomas and Valerie. Not long will we be able to welcome them among others back to a restoration of life as God has promised. Our tears of mourning will soon become tears of joy. Acts chapter 24 and verse 15.
