Dr. DeVries was born in Glendale, Calif., and was a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and George Washington University Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at the former Meadowbrook Hospital, Long Island, N.Y. He proudly served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.
Dr. DeVries practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mercy Hospital in Rockville Centre, N.Y., where he served as Chairman of the Cancer Committee and President of the Medical Staff from 1992-1993. He was a member of the American College of OB/GYN, the American College of Surgeons, serving as Governor from 1989-1993. He was a member and president of the Nassau OB/GYN Society and State Society of OB/GYN, the Nassau Academy of Medicine, the American Cancer Society and as state chairman, Cancer Liaison Program, Commission on Cancer, American College of Surgeons. He was an assistant professor of Clinical OB/GYN at the State University of N.Y., Stonybrook.
Dr. DeVries retired to St. Augustine in 1993. He remained an avid fisherman, but his primary enjoyment was traveling the U.S. in his motor home. Dr. DeVries was a humble, gracious, compassionate man. He was blessed with a wonderful family, a career he enjoyed, an absolute love for life and a wonder at the beauty of this country. He will be sadly missed, but warmly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Rd., Kenab, UT, 84741.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home. Services are planned for Monday at 2 p.m. at Craig Funeral Home Chapel, followed by burial at San Lorenzo Cemetery.

Mrs.DeVries, Your wonderful husband delivered my son Christopher in l969 at Mercy Hsp. He is now a principal and father of two. We were just speaking of Dr DeVries and Tormey last week with wonderful memories. Our prayers are with you.
