Ray Powell Lamar

Ray Powell Lamar, age 82, of Nauvoo, passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Walker Baptist Medical Center. He attended Auburn University for two years before joining the Navy. While in the Navy, he served on the USS Wisconsin (battleship) for three years and for one year on the USS Hermitage (dock landing ship). Ray Lamar served at Liberty Grove Baptist Church where he served as song leader, deacon, Sunday school and discipleship training director. Mr. Lamar went to New York with the Southern Baptist Relief as a volunteer after 9/11 to help clean up ash out of apartments. He was a member of the boys choir at East Lake United Methodist Church, his face is carved in marble on a pillar with the boys choir. Funeral services were held Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Springville. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Methodist Cemetery. Roger Watkins officiated. Mr. Lamar was preceded in death by his Father-Wesley Powell Lamar; Mother-Mary Elizabeth Lamar. He is survived by his Wife-Carolyn Fay Lamar; Daughters-Lamilla Raye Carrell (David) and Monica Kaye Gann (Scott); Sons-Derick Arthur Lamar (Crystal) and Benjamin Powell Lamar (Marcia); Sisters-Sandra Tucker (Gerald) and Regina Berry (Bob); Grandchildren-Isaac Carrell, Alice Wright, Luke Lamar, Emma Claire Lamar, Braxton Gann, William Gann and Audrey Lamar; Great Grandchildren-Rosaleen Carrell, Gavin Wright, Garrett Wright and Clint Wright.
