Cecelia Mattson Obituary

Mattson, Cecelia

Cecelia Mattson, age 85, of Stevens Point, passed away on February 20, 2016, at Wellington Place Senior Living while under the care of Ministry Hospice.

Cecelia was born March 9, 1930 in the Town of Hull to the late Anton and Lydia (Kowaleski) Mayek. She grew up in the Junction City area, attended local schools, and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1949.

Cecelia worked for Hardware Mutual and, later on, Sentry Insurance. She also enjoyed working part-time for several local retail businesses.

She married Donald Paul Mattson on July 1, 1953, in Milwaukee, WI. He preceded her in death on December 27, 1994.

Family was extremely important to Cecelia, and she will be remembered as a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She relished spending time with her children, as well as spending precious moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time Cecelia was an avid reader, loved to garden, and was also a wonderful cook. In addition, she was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her son, Marc James (Dede) Mattson; daughter, Mary Jennifer (Cris) Miller; 4 grandchildren, Meghann (Jason) Czech, Margaret (Rick) Fossen, Andrew (Lauren) Mattson, and Marianne Mattson. She is also survived by 5 beloved great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mattson, her mother and father, and 12 brothers and sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2016, at St Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Jerzy Rebacz presiding. A time of visitation will precede at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in Forest Cemetery.

Cecelia's family would like to acknowledge the Wellington staff and Ministry Hospice for all their care and support.

Her family has requested memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society and the Portage County Humane Society. Online condolences may be made at www.bostonfuneralhome.net.
