Schrader, John

John Schrader, 92, town of Franzen, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at his home.

He was born April 30, 1922 in Elderon, son of the late John and Catherine (Brzezinski) Schrader. On June 15, 1946 he married Ruffina Groshek at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway. She preceded him in death on July 16, 1983.

John did various odds jobs in the Wausau area for many years. In 1949 he purchased a dairy farm in the town of Franzen and farmed there until his retirement just last year. He was on the town board for Franzen serving on various positions from 1959 to 2003. Some of his favorite pastimes included deer hunting, cooking and gardening. John was also an usher at St. Mary Roman Catholic Oratory in Wausau for many years.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1946.

Survivors include his children, Tom (Margie) Schrader, Mark Schrader and Kathy Schrader, all of the town of Franzen and Linda (Robert) Sharafinski, Stevens Point, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruffina, one son, Jerry, a grand daughter, Dorothy Schrader and his siblings, Mary, Emily, Hattie, Evelyn, Edward, Ray, Peter and Floyd.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. Mary Roman Catholic Oratory, Wausau. The Rev. Aaron Huberfeld will preside. Burial will be in St. Jospeh Catholic Cemetery, Galloway. Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 8846 County Road C, Galloway. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at St. Mary Roman Catholic Oratory, Wausau. There will be a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 1302 Sixth Street, Wausau is in charge of arrangements. John was a good neighbor to us for more than half a century. My favorite story was one he told me: He got mad at his chain saw for not starting so he threw it against a rock and left it in the woods for a year, just to get even with it. I will always remember him for his dedication to taking care of his ailing wife for many long years.
