Michael Young Obituary

Young, Michael

Michael J. Young, 64, of Mosinee, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

Mike was born April 3, 1951, in Wausau, WI, son of the late Stanley and Carolyn (Mayer) Young. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1969. He continued his education at the UW-Eau Claire where he received his BA in psychology and then completed his Masters in school psychology at UW-Stout.

Mike was married to Sandie Barth, and together they enjoyed 39 blissful years of marriage.

He pursued his passion for helping children by working as a school psychologist at DC Everest and Stevens Point Area School Districts until he retired in 2006.

Mike was a member of New Hope Community Church in Wausau where he served as a church elder and enjoyed working with the youth group. He particularly loved mentoring teens as they served others on mission trips. Spending time with family and friends while hunting and fishing, as well as taking family trips, were important to Mike.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sandie, and his two sons, Bryce and Brennan. Brennan lives with his wife, Christa, and daughter, Eleanor, in Eau Claire, WI. Bryce lives with his wife, Ruth, in San Diego, CA. Mike is also survived by his sister, Linda, who lives in Mahtomedi, MN.

Pastor Dan Jelsma will officiate a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, at New Hope Community Church (E1045 South County Road J, Wausau, WI). For further details regarding arrangements and to sign an online guestbook, please visit www.helke.com.

Sandie and family,
I am surprised and sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was way to young and had much to live for. We were out of town so were unable to attend the funeral.

Brennan and Bryce,

We are very sad to hear this. Noah can still recall Brennan returning from countless hunting trips with your dad and sharing great stories.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family,

After talking with Brennan, Dean and I shared some of our favorite "Mike" stories. What good memories of a great guy! We were with you this morning in spirit, wishing we could hug you in person. Love to the entire family.

Sandie, Scott and I are so sorry to learn of Mike's passing. I will always remember Mike teasing me about "early retirement." Scott has memories of some great hunting and fishing stories. His strong family influence can be seen in Bryce and Brennan and what great individuals they have become.

Surprised and sorry to hear of Mike's death. Mike was lucky to find a good balance in life between family, work and his love of fishing and hunting. As a School Psychologist Mike served with distinction and great skill. In Stevens Point, Mike was a pioneer in the State of Wisconsin in the development of crisis management strategies to assist students, families and staff in time of grief and tragedy. Mike and I shared a number of complex situations with children and families which Mike demonstrated exemplary leadership in problem solving to seek positive resolution in the best interests of children. I will always remember Mike as a strong family man, professional and friend who brought much joy to this world.
