Thomas Gruba Obituary

Gruba, Thomas J.

Thomas "Tom" J. Gruba, age 66, of Stevens Point, died October 16, 2017 at his residence while under the wonderful care of Heartland Hospice.

Tom was born August 1, 1951 to the late Joseph & Theresa (Trepkowski) Gruba in Stevens Point. He attended St. Stephen's grade school and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School.

He married Susan (Kott) Gruba. They had 2 children together, Courtney & Seth. They later divorced.

Tom met the love of his life, Sheila Carey, who quickly became a member of the family. They enjoyed many memorable years together. Sheila took care of Tom during his illness and was by his side when he died.

Tom worked for American Motors (AMC)/ Chrysler at the Kenosha engine plant for 35 years. He worked various positions there, his last being Gauge Repair Technician upon retirement.

Tom will be remembered for his gentle, family orientated, laid back personality. Anyone who knew Tom would say he had a quick wit and unforgettable sense of humor; always making others laugh. His big heart especially shined when it came to his children and grandchildren. In his free time, Tom enjoyed golfing, playing Texas hold'em & pinnacle, Joan's home cooking, playing guitar, and listening to classic rock music, especially the Beatles and Eric Clapton. He relished tropical vacations and soaking up the sun rays on the beach. Fishing with his brother, Jimmy at Lake Susan & Lake Feeley was a treasured brotherly pastime. Family will always cherish Magnum's annual 4th of July party with friends and relatives.

He is survived by longtime girlfriend, Sheila Carey of Union Grove; daughter, Courtney Gruba of Chicago, IL; son, Seth (Chika) Gruba of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Liam and Kai; sister, Joye (James) Hamilton of Stevens Point; brother, James (Joan Jinsky) of Stevens Point; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Theresa; and brother, William.

A Funeral Service will be held 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2017 at Boston Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Hackel officiating. Visitation will precede the funeral on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Although it has been many years, i'm sure your amazing personality never changed. Had a lot of fun years at The Point After. You were a great boss! You will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Very sad to lose a dear friend. In the past few years I was lucky to spend time with him on a regular basis. I also witnessed his constant struggle with illness. He is in a better place now. Will miss his genuine smile.
