David Haak Obituary
Dave graduated from Stillwater Area High School in 1954. Following graduation, Dave served 2 years on active duty in the Minnesota Army National Guard as a field radio mechanic in Munich, Germany. After returning to Stillwater, he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial arts and a master's degree in education from the University of Minnesota. A dedicated educator, Dave spent 38 years teaching high school students small engines, metal shop, and industrial arts in Guam, India, and the St. Paul public school system.
Known for his kindness, willingness to help others, and wonderful sense of humor, Dave was deeply loved by those who knew him. Beyond his profession, Dave found joy in gardening, reading, hunting, and fishing. He especially cherished time spent at the family hunting shack in Togo, MN, making lasting memories with his son, grandchildren, brothers, brother-in-law, and nephews. Dave was a regular blood donor and was especially proud to have donated over 100 pints.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Marilyn (née Schultenover), and his children, Jessica (Joe) Pendal, Danette (Brian) Lilja, Miriam (Stu) Barnett, and Jeremy (Tina) Haak. He is also dearly missed by his grandchildren, Gavin, Ethan, Liam, Olivia, Elise, and Lauren; his siblings, Mary (Paul) Rice, Andrew (Carol) Haak, Daniel Haak; sister-in-law, Margaret; along with many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Jim, Louis, and Mark.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stillwater. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Mass will be followed by a grave-side burial at 12:15 PM at St. Michael's Cemetery in Bayport, MN, and a celebration of life at Pioneer Park in Stillwater from 2-6 PM. Please join his family in celebrating Dave; all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Minnesota Conservation Federation or a pint of blood to honor Dave.
