Brian Simmons Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brian Paul Simmons on October 25, 2024, in Superior, Arizona.

Brian started life on March 7, 1965, in Loveland, Colorado. Brian graduated from Absarokee High School and Montana Tech, School of Mines and Engineering. Between high school and college, Brian started his mining career at Stillwater Mine in Nye, Montana. While working in Beatty Nevada, Brian met his wife, Kym. They were married on August 20, 1994. Together they built a life with their two daughters. Through it all, Brain remained a rock for his family, turning each move into an adventure and each new town into a memory.

Brian never knew a stranger. His laughter and stories will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him. He was a big, tough man with a romantic heart who loved dancing, music, and cowboy poetry. Brian was a free spirit. In every mountain peak, river's edge, and forest trail, Brian felt God's divine presence. Guided by the spirit of the land, he believed, "Sunsets are a marvelous phenomenon. They are symbolic of God's approval at the end of the day. Sunrises are similar, of course. They give us a prelude of what each coming day may hold. There is beauty and good in every day if only we take the time to see it."

Brian achieved his goal of retiring by his 59th birthday from Cementation in March of 2024 to pursue his dreams of exploring the beauty of our great country. His hobbies followed him into retirement. Camping, off-roading, traveling, and his most prized hobby, hunting which he enjoyed with numerous friends and most importantly his father, journeying to multiple continents and states.

He leaves behind not only his immediate and extended family but also many friends who became his chosen family. Brian was preceded in death by his wife, Kym. Brian is survived by daughters Kailee and Johnna, parents John and Marilyn Simmons, sisters, Renee (Dave), Laura (John), and nephew Wayne. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and legacy live on in those who loved him.

Sorry to hear of Brian´s passing. Condolences to family & friends. I met Brian at MT Tech in the 1990s. He worked hard and was a rare mix of funny & friendly. Always fun to be around and we kept in touch through the years at conferences and meetings. He will be sorely missed.

I knew Brian in 1995 when he began working for Dynatec as their engineer on the Barrick Meikle shaft sinking project. He was a hard worker, smart, did any job, and was highly thought of by Dynatec and Barrick. I was honored when he asked me to be a reference for his P.E. Exam. He was a great friend too even though I had not seen him for many years. I was so pleased when he became a top manager for his company. I did not know of his passing which saddened me until I saw it in the Montana Tech news today. May he and his family find peace.

I used to babysit Brian and his sisters, Renee and Laura, while the still lived in Lockwood. He and the girls were so sweet. The Simmons family are the best people you will ever know. My heart goes out to you.
