James Christensen Obituary
Jim passed away peacefully on April 20, 2021 at Sanford Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. after struggling with COVID-19 on top of weak lungs and a bout with cancer. Pastor John Meyer gave him communion while his wife, Shirley, and sister, Judy, held his hands.
A Public Visitation will be from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the church. Messages of sympathy can be sent online to the family at www.kramerfuneralhome.com.
Social distancing will be observed and masks are required.
James Victor Christensen was born on March 14, 1941 to Victor and Mildred 'Sue' (Kuehl) Christensen in Fairmont. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Galena Township. When Jim was six, the family moved to a farm in Watonwan County, just three miles east of Ormsby. He went to country school through eighth grade, then to St. James High School for two years before transferring to the Agriculture College in Waseca. Jim was a member of the Minnesota National Guard where he was a cook which served him well when he and Shirley owned the Town House Supper Club in Ormsby for many years. Jim met Shirley Junkans there and "knew she was the one"! On November 16, 1974 they were united in marriage at Grace Lutheran Church in Ormsby. After their marriage they owned and operated the Town House in Ormsby until 1997. There he was called Uncle Jim with a 50 cent piece to a lot of kids who still call him that to this day. Jim also farmed with his brother, Jerry in Long Lake Township, rural Ormsby. Along with his brother, Jerry, they belonged to a bowling league. Jim enjoyed going to Medora, N.D. to purchase cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Christensen of rural Ormsby; sister, Judy (Garrett) Sampson of Burnsville; sister-in-law, Dottie Christensen of rural Ormsby; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Joyce (Pete) Martin of Cathedral City, Calif.; and other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mildred 'Sue' Christensen; brother, Jerome 'Monk' Christensen; father- and mother-in-law, Carl and Mabel Junkans; brother-in-law, Larry Junkans; sister-in-law, Beverly Engen and other relatives.

Jim was one of the greatest. So many of us have wonderful memories of Jim and Shirley at the Town House and on the farm. Both Jim and Shirley have been such Blessings to all of us in our communities of Ormsby, Odin, St. James, and Trimont. My wife Sue and son Christopher worked for Jim and the Town House loving every minute being with this great man. We will all miss him, but be so glad to have known him. Jim was one of God's Great Children! And the Angel Shirley remains with us.
