Caroline Arnold Obituary

Arnold, Caroline Amalia Hunsche died Nov. 29, 2014 in Pittsboro, N.C. She was 81. Her family and friends will always remember her keen wit, deep intellect and passionate interests ranging from genealogy to crosswords to theological literature. Carol was born Sept. 16, 1933 in St. Louis to Louise Margaret Osterberg and George Ralph Hunsche, Jr. Although she lived all over the United States, much of her life was spent in St. Louis, where she had lifelong family ties, and in northeastern Colorado, where she always felt most at home. Carol married twice, first to Mark Myers between 1955 and 1961 and then to Albert Arnold, Jr. between 1961 and 1972. Her daughters, Judi and Robbie, came from her first marriage, and her son, Adam, from her second. She briefly attended the University of Colorado after graduating from Normandy High School in suburban St. Louis in 1951. She returned to Webster College in Webster Groves, Mo. in 1968 and graduated in 1972 with a degree in philosophy. She earned a master of divinity degree from Iliff School of Theology in Denver in 1982. She was admitted to fellowship in the Unitarian Universalist Ministerial Association but chose not to be ordained. She also served as assistant minister of Montclair United Methodist Church in Denver in the early 1980s. Much of her work life was spent in service to others, particularly as Director of Religious Education at First Unitarian Church of St. Louis, Unitarian Society of Winchester, Mass., Foothills Unitarian Church in Fort Collins, Colo. and First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh. Survivors include her stepmother, Marietta Hunsche of St. Louis; brother, Dana (Julie Hasenstab) Hunsche of St. Louis; children, Judi (Gary) L'Hommedieu of Orlando, Fla., Robbie (Frank Michielli) Myers of New York, and Adam (Michele Doyle) Arnold of Cary, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001 or Rocky Mountain Conservancy, Attn: Donations, PO Box 3100, Estes Park, CO 80517. Services are pending.
