I was always in a quandary as to how I introduce Corinne to others. I could elaborate on the" second- cousin- once- removed-on-my-father's- side- by- marriage" bit, but really our true relationship was one of deep friendship. In fact ,Corinne was my best friend. she was always so busy and consumed with going and doing and connecting with people and all this,[her world] she shared with me . When I moved to Boston three years ago, I knew our friendship would continue the same as always, and it did. The phone and several visits back to St. Louis made this possible. Now, I so often want to pick up the phone and hear her voice telling me about her lunch with this one, concert with that one, duplicate bridge game, trip to the casino, get together with family. [ And she'd be especially happy to report being out the night before till after 11P.M]. But then, even after her illness started consuming her life, she would turn the conversation to what was happening with me and my family. I always felt loved and important to her, as she was to me. Corinne holds such a strong place in my heart and memory that to me she will never die. My thanks to Fred and Max for letting me be with her and them her last few days. The great love and care she received from family and friends turned the sad event of her passing into something spiritual . Sandy Coben, Boston, Ma.

I did not know Corinne well but had the privilege of playing bridge with her in April at Bridge Haven. I always knew that she was kind but did not experience her good humor until that night. More than once she made those at the table laugh will a self- effacing genuineness. I had no idea that she was ill and her zest for fun at the bridge table must have come from her zest for life in general. Truly a sweet and gentle soul, the bridge community in Saint Louis will miss her very much. May she rest in peace

Corinne and Irwin were two extraordinary influences on my life! My mother (and later, my sister) began working for her at the Clayton Library and then Mid-County. My Mom was a single working mother when most were married and staying at home. Corinne was light years ahead in supporting her people, making the library a family-friendly place to work, and inspiring a love for reading and public service. She was funny, no-nonsense, tough and tender at the same time. Irwin was always the comic, and the two of them together just made you want to bask in their glow! Truly, she was a great lady!

I had the great honor to work with Corinne from 1972-1978. She was a great boss, a funny and wonderful person who would do anything to help you. Truly a very caring and nice person. Thank God I had such a person in my life.

Corinne was indeed a grande dame of the library! She was always out-spoken and always entertaining. We have missed her and will never find another like her.

I had the pleasure of playing with Corinne, visiting with her, and sharing many a laugh. I called her about a week ago and we were able to
share about 5 or 6 minutes together. I will miss Corinne, and i offer my deepest sympathies. She was a wonderful lady.

I will miss your mom. Sometimes I would drive her and Honore to Bridge Haven to play in an evening game. She would say she didn't know how to play bridge, but then would come in with a high score and show us all that she really knew what was going on. Sly one. I will miss her.

Your mom loved to play bridge. The few times I played with her I admired that she loved to play because she said it exercised her mind. For her, the results were secondary to having fun and keeping her mind active. We, from tne bridge world, will miss Corinne.

Dear Maxwell and Fred,
This is from Marlene Schuman, your 3rd cousin. I know death is part of life's cycle but alson know how hard it is to lose our parents. I certainly send you my sympathy.
I had sent out a Mother's Day post to Irene, whose email address I have. She let me know of your Mom's passing. While it has been many years since we (the 3rd cousins) have had contact, I have run into your Mom now and then and we enjoyed "kibbutzing." I have rather nice memories of gatherings at your grandparents' home in U. City. It is my intention to be at the funeral. Most sincerely, Marlene
