Darrell Mays Obituary

Mays, Darrell W. fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Debra L. Mays (nee Butcher) for over 37 years; dearest father of Danielle (Dan) Nelson and Chris (Amy) Mays; loving brother of Chris (Al) Owens, Glen (Mary) Mays, Billie Vitale, Rose (Bill) Ross, Mary (Charlie) Cappel and the late Shirley Hooker and Fran (Don) Reckert; dear nephew of Marjorie Simpson and Helen Mitchell; our dear uncle, cousin and friend to many. Darrell's greatest loves in life included spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger and seemed to touch everyone he met in some small way. Enjoyment came easy for him, whether it was visiting with family and friends, traveling or spending time with his wife and their horse Tuff. Darrell was a big man with an even bigger heart who could light up a room with his smile. In the face of adversity his courage was a source of inspiration to all of those who knew him. He will be missed by many including the special animals in his life: Baron, Rufus, Mattie and Sam. Services: Funeral from KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. on Monday, April 15, 9:15 a.m. to St. Joseph Catholic Church (Imperial) for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society appreciated. Visitation Sunday 3-8 p.m.
