Zobel, Heinz Ewald
on February 12, 2023, at age 92. He was born in 1930, son of the late Ewald and Marianne Zobel, who were German immigrants. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, and served as an Army first lieutenant, executive officer, of a guided missile company. He received his degree in architecture in 1956 from Washington University, and became a well-known architect in St. Louis. He started his career at Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum (HOK), and continued at Schwarz & Van Hoefen, where he became a partner in 1970. He opened his own firm, Heinz Zobel Associates/Architects/Planners, in 1977, where he worked as principal partner until he retired in 1997. Heinz was an avid and accomplished painter. He was active in his church, and coached all of his children in sports activities. He enjoyed traveling and hiking, and attending concerts and the theater. In retirement, he served as president of his high school alumni association and as chairman of the scholarship committee. He volunteered as an OASIS tutor in the Parkway School District.
In addition to Joan (Hildebrand) Zobel, his wife of 33 years, Heinz is survived by his children, Conrad (Joni), Craig (Linda), and Annette (Bryan Hettenbach) Zobel, as well as his step-children David (Ellen) and Scott Miller. He has three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Gordon (Julie) Zobel, and his stepson Rick (Liz) Miller. He is remembered by all as a kind and gentle man and a loyal friend to many.

Annette. Sorry for your loss. I’m a firm believer that when we lose someone close to us, like a father, they continue to live on through us and give us unbelievable strength. They’re so connected to us that they become a part of us. Be strong.
