Lindsay Pickens Obituary

Lindsay Lloyd Pickens, 82, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away on the 27th of December, 2023 in Ballwin, MO.

Lindsay was born on the 20th of August, 1941 in Detroit, MI to parents Buford Lindsay Pickens & Jenny Gronner Johnsen. Lindsay lived in Detroit until 1946, in New Orleans, LA, 1946-53, and in St. Louis County, MO, 1953-64.

Graduated from High School in Webster Groves, MO, 1959. B.S.E.E. from Washington University, St. Louis, MO, 1964. M.S.E.E. from University of Missouri, Columbia, MO, 1968.

Married Phyllis Bollman, February 1970. Divorced May 1974.

Son, Tyrus, born February 1, 1971.

Active duty U.S. Air Force Jun 1964 - Mar 1985. Assigned to Electrical Engineer at USAF Satellite Control Facility, Sunnyvale, CA, 1964-67, and at Oklahoma City Air Material Area, Tinker Air Force Base, OK, 1968-70; as Base Civic Action Officer at 3rd Combat Support Group, Bien Hoa Air Base, Vietnam, Oct 1970 - Oct 1971; as Space Operations Officer at Detachment 6, 14th Missile Warning Squadron, Charleston Air Force Station, ME, 1971-72, and at USAF Technical Applications Center, Patrick AFB, FL, 1972-79; and as Computer Programmer at USAF Data Services Center, Pentagon, Washington, DC, 1979-82, and 7011th Computer Services Squadron, Boerfink, Germany, 1983-85.

Award Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Services Medal w/1 olc (oak leaf cluster), and Air Force Commendation Medal. Won Man-of-the-Year Award at the 16th Annual Space Congress, Cocoa Beach, FL, Apr 1979. Retired as Captain in the USAF, Apr 1985.

Lived at 4016 Winnebago St., St. Louis, MO since 1986. In May 2011 was assigned to Apt 724 at Meramec Bluffs Senior Living and has lived part time at both residences throughout those years.

Was active in the Volksmarch Club of the St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister Cities Committee. Served as Director and VP of the St. Louis Blues (music) Society, 1988. Assisted the Information Systems Office, USAF Medical Center, Scott AFB, IL as an American Red Cross volunteer for 25 years beginning Oct 1988.

Returned to Florida once a year for many years to attend the week-long Magnolia Music Festival on the Suannee River with his old Florida friends.
