Mary Karch Obituary

Karch, Mary Adams Age 90, of St. Louis, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Surrey Place in Chesterfield, MO where she had been a resident for several years. Mary was born on March 16, 1919 in Ames, Iowa. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics from Iowa State University in 1942. She moved to St. Louis, MO where she became Director of the Mayrose Test Kitchen of St. Louis Independent Packing Co. where she met the love of her life, Irwin C. Karch, and married in 1945. Later she was a consultant in the home service department for Laclede Gas Company, taught cooking classes, and was a nutritionist and tour director et Freund Baking Co. In 1947 she organized and was the first president of the St. Louis Home Economists in Homemaking, a division of the American Home Economics Association. She had many passions including cooking, gardening, genealogy, DAR, flower arranging, antiques, and most importantly her family. Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Irwin C. Karch, and her brother, Clifton Adams. Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Miller of Joplin, MO and a granddaughter, Christina Harrod also of Joplin, MO. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, as she was a wonderful mother, grandma, and friend. Services: Visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 30 at BOPP Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd., Kirkwood, followed by a Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the College Club Scholarship Fund, 1636 N. Geyer Rd., St. Louis, MO 63131 or the American Heart Association.
